The fig tree suckers

It seemed like a great idea - the base of the fig tree had become almost entirely covered by suckers, which needed removing, so I decided to capitalise on the situation with an attempt at mass propogation.

The last sucker I removed is fast becoming a sturdy little sappling (right) after a period of virtual dormancy during which I had given up hope of anything happening.

The same cannot be said for the most recent set of transplants. They could well take off, but right now those healthy little twigs which were quite readily sprouting leaves when atatched to the tree are a sorry sight. The leaves have withered and they look like they've been paid more than one visit by marauding slugs.
It's my own fault. After all, sticking something in compost and crossing your fingers is hardly the most reliable form of propogation.

Come back Percy Thrower.
