Here comes colour
Summer in the garden has so far been largely dominated by foliage, despite my best efforts of adding colour this year by planting gladiola bulbs everywhere. This is because I hadn't bothered to find out when the gladiola flowered. In case anyone doesn't know, it's around late August.
So last week it was back up to the garden centre to get something with petals. I came back with a three-pack of glorious gerbera, resplendent with bright red and yellow giant daisy heads and all of a sudden, almost so as not to be outdone, flowers are coming out all over the place.
The most striking of these is the cana lily, which exploded into bright orange bloom on Saturday.
The flowers of the morning glory climber are also popping out on a daily basis, and although they haven't reached the blooming stage just yet, the flower stalks of those gladiola are now shooting up.
About time, too!
